John Clayton Mayer.

Sob Rock Tour. Chase Center, San Francisco

This is the second time I’ve seen John Mayer. The first time was a volunteer thing in Vegas and I get to see the performance pretty up close, like next to the stage up close. I was mesmerized. Fast-forward about ten years to 2022 and I get to see him again. This time not so close but same mesmerizing and adoration feeling. He is just extremely talented and I’m just a big fan of his. I mean, who isn’t?

He played songs from his latest album, Sob Rock. I’m not very adept in being a citic with some heavy adjectives but that album good.

But he mostly played some songs from his past albums and some “deep cuts” I mean out of the 20 songs he played, he only played five songs from his latest album. And the songs he did play are some of my absolute favorite of his, Love on the Weekend, Who Says, In Your Atmosphere, Stop This Train, Slow Dancing in a Burning Room. He also did an acoustic set in between with one of my favorite covers of his, Beyonce’s XO (which was written by Ryan Tedder, also a favorite songwriter of mine).

It was also an absolutley fucking cool moment when he did a little snippet of You Can Call Me Al in between When the Right One Comes. Check out the set list below.

  • Last Train Home
  • Belief
  • Love on the Weekend
  • Something Like Olivia
  • Wild Blue
  • Who Says
  • Changing
  • XO (Acoustic)
  • In Your Atmosphere (Acoustic)
  • Neon (Acoustic)
  • Still Feel Like Your Man
  • Edge of Desire
  • Stop This Train
  • Till the Right One Comes
  • The Beautiful Ones (Prince cover by David Ryan Harris, which he performed beautifully by the way)
  • Slow Dancing in a Burning Room
  • Waiting in the World to Change
  • Gravity
  • Your Body is a Wonderland (Encore)
  • New Light (Encore)

See what I mean about not so close.

I can sit in the rafters and still have a great time on that memorable night.
